Getting Started
How do I search for phenomena?
Use the search bar on the homepage or browse page. You can search by name, category, region, or keyword. The search updates in real-time as you type.
How do I filter results?
On the Browse page, use the filter dropdowns to narrow results by category, region, or danger level. You can combine multiple filters.
How do favorites work?
Click the star icon on any phenomenon to save it to your favorites. Favorites are stored in your browser's local storage. You can export/import them from the Favorites page.
Features
What is the Map view?
The Map displays phenomena by geographic location. Only entries with latitude/longitude coordinates appear. Click markers to view details and links to full documentation.
What is the Timeline view?
The Timeline orders phenomena chronologically by first reported date. This helps visualize when different phenomena entered public consciousness or historical record.
Can I use this data in my project?
Yes! All data is CC0-1.0 (public domain). Access via our API at /api/v1/index.json.
Attribution appreciated but not required.
Data & Sources
Where does the data come from?
Each phenomenon has a dedicated GitHub repository with documented sources. We compile data from academic research, historical texts, folklore archives, and verified eyewitness accounts.
How can I report errors?
Visit the phenomenon's GitHub repository (linked on each detail page) and open an Issue. Please provide sources for any corrections.
Can I submit a new phenomenon?
Yes! Open an issue at github.com/wyrdness with the phenomenon name, category, description, and at least 3 credible sources. We review all submissions.
Technical
Does this site work without JavaScript?
Core content is accessible without JavaScript. Interactive features (search, favorites, filters) require JavaScript enabled.
Is my data private?
We collect no personal data. Favorites are stored locally in your browser. No tracking, no cookies, no analytics.
How do I access the API?
